We all know about advertising’s potential to change the way people think, enough to sell a product into the billions. But with an individual receiving over 300 advertising messages a day on an average, marketing communications today has become a battleground. Brands fight for a space in consumers’ minds amidst increasing clutter and paucity of time. Rapid advancements in digital technologies have enabled the consumer to have access to an increasing number of media options, not just for consuming information, but also generating and sharing information with the public. In this scenario, it’s important for brands to be cognizant of their reputation among internal and external stakeholders and devise ways to improve their brand perception through effective public relations.

Advertising and Public Relations in today’s age requires involving the consumers, both in communication and the process of message development, and engaging them in a broader relationship. Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) adds value to this approach by synergising traditional as well as contemporary marketing and promotion tools to drive a unified message across all platforms for maximum impact. IMCalso involves restructuring organisations to create more consumer-centric environments.
